Bối cảnh của game vẫn như cũ, vẫn bắt đầu từ ngôi nhà của anh chàng Crazy Dave với rất nhiều cây xanh dùng để phòng thủ trước sự tấn công của lũ zombie gớm ghiếc. Trong đoạn trailer, chúng ta dễ dàng thấy sự xuất hiện của khá nhiều cây xanh mới như cây "boomerang" hay cây đấm bốc... còn về phần zombie thì trong video không cho thấy có zombie nào mới, có lẽ PopCap muốn dành sự bất ngờ cho ngày ra mắt chính thức.


Một yếu tố khác không thể không nhắc đến trong "Plants vs Zombies 2" đó là chiếc xe cỗ máy thời gian của anh chàng Dave. Chiếc xe có lẽ lấy cảm hứng từ trong loạt phim "Back To The Future" với khả năng có thể lái đến tương lai lẫn quá khứ. Biết đâu trong phần 2 này, người chơi có thể dùng chiếc xe để đi đến nhiều thời điểm khác nhau và chiến đấu với đủ các loại zombie khác chăng?


PopCap cho biết game sẽ được phát hành hoàn toàn miễn phí trên App Store, người chơi không cần bỏ ra một xu nào vẫn có thể chơi gần hết game. Tất nhiên, game sẽ có các In-app Purchase để ta có thể mua thêm các vật phẩm nâng cấp.
